When I first heard of Marc's death, I called my friend Kathy (White) Chappell. We were both saddened and shocked, but our conversation soon turned to the funny recollections of our time with Marc. I first met Marc as a sophomore at Sparks High. At first, he was just that freshman kid with the pineapple hairdo that sat in front of us in Geometry, but soon he was one of my best friends. He didn't care about what was considered cool and didn't mind driving us around in his tank-like, white Thunderbird with red interior. Some of my best memories include him explaining to the police that we really weren't young vandals, but just some crazy kids sliding on blocks of ice down the steep slopes at McQueen High just for fun. We spent some fun times at his parents ranch, tubing down the Truckee River, and hanging out in his parent's TV den. He set up a "sleep over" on the Wild Creek golf course, only to have us all get soaked when the sprinklers turned on in the middle of the night.
Marc was good at all that he did, including school, skiing, tennis, and track, but was not one to boast or put people down. His junior year he arranged a prom night with several couples, but also included two girls without dates. From reading the wonderful memories of Marc on this site, it seems he touched many lives. I feel grateful to have had him in my life. My heart goes out to his family. Thank you, Mike and Anita, for sharing your son and your home with us.
